This fleece is from a local alpaca named Herman. His fleece has been skirted and is pretty clean for a raw fleece. There is some vegetable matter that will need to be picked out.
Alpaca fiber is a good alternative to sheep's wool for those with sensitivities or allergies. Alpaca is warmer softer and stronger than sheep's wool but garments made from 100% alpaca may not hold their shape as well as garments that are made from sheep's wool. If you were to blend this alpaca with wool you would have the perfect yarn!
